With roasted vegetables, it's often not the recipe that decides but the oil distribution. Too much oil: soggy and calorie-heavy. Too little: dry and pale. An oil sprayer hits the middle – a fine mist instead of puddles.

Especially if you work with portions and energy balance, you'll notice the difference quickly.

Sheet pan prep in practice

  1. Dice vegetables and spread on the pan.
  2. 1–3 sprays of oil, then toss with your hands or tongs.
  3. Salt, season, roast at high heat.
  4. Protein (tofu, chicken) separately or alongside – also lightly sprayed.

Tip: don't heat olive oil and toasted sesame oil too hot. For high oven temperatures, canola or sunflower oil often work better.

FAQ

Does the sprayer clog?

Yes, especially with cloudy or cold-pressed oil. Rinse through with warm water and dish soap.

Can I spray vinegar?

Many sprayers also handle vinegar or a light dressing – check the manufacturer's instructions.

Is spraying really lower in calories?

Only if you use less oil. The sprayer helps with dosing, but it doesn't make zero calories.

Still use parchment?

Yes, makes sense – the sprayer doesn't replace a nonstick layer, it just doses the fat.

Which oil works?

For high heat: canola/sunflower. Olive oil is better for lower temperatures and finishing.
